Overview

The FC client in IBM's AIX contains a buffer overflow that may cause a core dump in the client.

Description

The IBM AIX FC client allows a buffer overflow of a few bytes in the client process, which could cause intermittent core dumps during session setup. Overflowing the buffer is difficult or impossible without local, privileged access to the client.

Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability causes the FC client to crash.

Solution

Upgrade to AIXV4

"The commands and their arguments are not accessible by ordinary users, and it is unlikely an exploit could be crafted in any case.

"Customers who use AIX v4.3.x need only to apply APAR# 27310 to eliminate the buffer overflow."
