Overview

The Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve Backup Tape Engine contains a vulnerability. If successfully exploited, this vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to shut down the tape engine interface.

Description

BrightStor ARCserve Backup is a backup and data retention tool that integrates with other BrightStor Data Availability and BrightStor Storage Management solutions. The Tape Engine features allow BrightStor ARCserve Backup products to use tape drives for storage.

The BrightStor ARCserve Backup Tape Engine contains a vulnerability that is caused by an RPC function. This RPC function can be used to disable the tape engine interface.

Impact

A remote unauthenticated attacker may be able to create a denial -of-service condition.

Upgrade
Computer Associates has released an upgrades to address this issue.
