Overview

A remotely exploitable buffer overflow in SGI IRIX syslogd may allow an attacker to crash syslogd or execute arbitrary code.

Description

There is a remotely exploitable buffer overflow in SGI IRIX syslogd. For more detailed information please see SGI Security Advisory 20020405-01-I.

Impact

An attacker can crash syslogd and may be able to execute arbitrary code with the privileges of the syslog daemon.

Solution

Patches are not available. Upgrade to IRIX 6.5.10 or later.
